Any resemblance between your reality and mine
are purely coincidental.

Latest Win10 updates?

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/05/22/windows_10_update_woes_redux/

The troubled Windows 10 April 2018 update is facing another
issue, with some users losing access to their desktop after
installing the new code.

The problem, which first appeared in a posting on a
Microsoft support forum on 14 May, has gained a bit of
traction over the last two days with users taking to social
media as they go through the three stages of installing this
update: frustration, fury and despair.

Mine jumped off a cliff. At least hubby's managed to update itself,
albeit slowly. Overnight. I'm slowly getting this machine sorted, I
just haven't had the time to devote this week. Just grateful important
email was backed up and re-found.

Reinstall with the 'new' Win 10, found all my emails, favourites etc. Up
and running again, and I must admit its zipping along now. Maybe a
forced reinstall wasn't such a bad thing for my cluttered up machine :-)

My issue was I just didn't have enough hours in the week the week it
happened, was up to my eyeballs in decorating parents new retirement flat!

Both fixed now :-)
